  • High-resolution display, Evenly distributed backlight, Comfortable to hold for long reading sessions
  • Content protected with DRM technology, Does not handle PDFs or other content-rich file formats well, "With special offers" models display ads on their lock screens
  • You'll be hard pressed to find a more competent, feature-packed e-reader for the money. But we recommend paying a little extra to avoid Amazon's "special offers" option that puts ads on the Paperwhite's lock screen...

  • Excellent contrast on display, with deep blacks, Easy one-handed operation, Fast and responsive interface
  • As ever, Kindle lock-screen ads cost extra to remove, No MicroSD card slot, Web browser remains “experimental”
  • The Kindle Paperwhite (2015) is a better e-reader than ever, thanks to a higher-resolution display that produces sharp text, as well as a simple, snappy-feeling interface. Read More…...

  • Abstract:  If you're only going to do one thing, you need to do it really, really well, so the stakes are high for Amazon's 2015 Kindle Paperwhite . Slotting in-between the $79 Kindle and the well-esteemed - but, at $199, expensive - Kindle Voyage , the $119 Paperwh...

  • Amazon has improved on last year's excellent Paperwhite e-reader with the sharper, higher resolution screen found in the step-up Kindle Voyage. A smattering of new features enhance Amazon's already best-in-class content ecosystem. The built-in light isn't
  • The HD screen is an upgrade but doesn't make a huge difference, an AC adapter isn't included (just a Micro-USB cable for charging). The ad-free version costs $20 more
  • The Kindle Paperwhite gets an HD screen, and while it isn't as big an upgrade as you'd think, it's a welcome addition, incrementally enhancing the Kindle reading experience...

  • Lovely, high-res screen, Long-lasting battery, Snappy page flips and scrolling
  • Base model includes ads, Notmany design tweaks over the last generation, Amazon's ecosystem isn't for everyone
  • This is the third Paperwhite in as many years, and Amazon finally upgraded it with a high-resolution 300ppi screen. The rest of the changelog is pretty short, but that doesn't really matter; a great display combined with Amazon's web of content makes thi...

  • Abstract:  The Kindle Paperwhite just updated to a higher resolution screen for the same $120 price. I probably dont need to tell you its better than the last Paperwhite. It definitely is.At its core, an e-reader is a very simple, single-use gadget. Anyone who rea...

  • I mentioned at the outset that Amazon didn't do much upgrading with the third-gen Paperwhite, but the truth is, it didn't have to. The first-gen Paperwhite was a great e-reader, and so was the second. This third-gen becomes just another iteration that mak...

  • High-resolution screen, Great battery life, Huge book selection
  • No adaptive backlight, Not waterproof, DRM
  • More times than not, the Verge score is based on the average of the subscores below. However, since this is a non-weighted average, we reserve the right to tweak the overall score if we feel it doesn't reflect our overall assessment and price of the produ...

  • Sharp, bright screen, Light and compact, Great online store
  • Battery life impacted, Few reasons to upgrade
  • Amazon's new Paperwhite has been updated with a gloriously sharp screen, but the trade-off is reduced battery life compared with last year's model. It's still a great ereader and the crisp visuals make it ideal for comic book fans, but original owners hav...

  • Abstract:  With its desirable features, pocketable size, and reasonable price tag, Amazon's Kindle Paperwhite has been a safe bet to gift or recommend to voracious readers since 2012. After its most recent design refresh, Amazon's mid-range e-reader rivals e-readers...
