The editors liked

The editors didn't like

  • They work brilliantly, Unobtrusive, So easy to pair
  • They look a bit weird, Easy to lose one, Case needs to be less slippy
  • Apple's AirPods are technically brilliant - but we're not so keen on what they look like...

  • rocksolid connection, brilliant case, long battery life, seamless connection between multiple Apple devices, no lag or lipsync issues, good if not quite spectacular audio quality
  • no isolation, less stable when connected to nonApple devices, lack of controls, reliance on Siri requiring an internet connection
  • In some ways I love the AirPods. Apple's W1 chip really does what it claims: solves Bluetooth connectivity issues that have plagued all but a few truly wireless earbuds, and with excellent battery life too. The case is also brilliant and I don't even mind...

  • Cool and helpful auto pause/play functionality, Slim and portable charging case, Accurate Siri performance, Great audio quality
  • They tend to get loose in the ear and need readjustment (although they haven't actually fallen out yet), Environmental noise leakage
  • We're impressed with Apple's AirPods - sound quality is excellent, the auto play/pause function is great, the accuracy of the Siri controls is a pleasant surprise and call quality is impressive. Considering the small form factor of the earphones, the amou...

  • Strong Bluetooth connection, Great battery life, W1 chip is the future of wireless headphones
  • Sound quality not much better than average, Don't fit in all ear types, Design isn't for everyone
  • Ultimately, the Apple AirPods make me excited for what Apple can achieve for future versions as the first attempt falls short in some important areas...

  • The ultra lightweight Apple AirPods are fully wireless headphones that offer a reliable wireless connection, effortless pairing with Apple devices, decent sonics and good call quality. The included compact charging case quickly charges the buds
  • Their open design allows for a lot of ambient noise to leak in. There are no controls on the buds (except Siri). Similarly priced wireless models deliver better sound. And yes, they look pretty dorky
  • Look past their offbeat design and you'll find that Apple AirPods' compact size and high convenience factor are a winning combination...

  • Rock-solid wireless reliability, range, Best-in-class battery life, Fast, compact charging case, Independent earbud operation, Replacement parts available
  • Not suitable for fitness activity, Average sound quality, Expensive replacement parts
  • If you can't resist the appeal of a wire-free earbud and you are satisfied with the sound of Apple's EarPods, then yes – knock yourself out and pick up a pair of Apple AirPods. You can do a lot worse in terms of reliability and overall performance and spe...

  • Abstract:  Apple says it needs “a little more time” before it starts selling the new wireless ear buds that are designed to work with its newest iPhones – the ones that don't come with a dedicated headphone jack. The technology company showed off what it calls “AirPo...

  • Easy to connect, work instantly across the Apple eco-system, carry case is the charger, sound isolation for calls and Siri control
  • Design will polarise opinion, lose the charging case you're stuffed, expensive, no audio upgrade compared to EarPods, can fall out, Siri control is sluggish
  • The AirPods have already polarised opinion when it comes to their design. Everyone we've asked would be conscious about wearing them, both because of the stick that protrudes from each ear and the fear of them falling out and getting lost. However the AirP...

  • AirPods aren't meant for everyone. The EarPods that come in the box with the iPhone 7 are the earphones meant for the proletariat; AirPods are meant for people who want to free themselves from a life of tangled wires and a physical tether to their phones...
