The editors liked

The editors didn't like

  • Abstract:  First impressions are that the NEX-7 and SLT-A77 are definitely going to garner lots of interest among enthusiasts. I like that Sony is fearlessly forging ahead with using the APS-C large sensor and there’s no hint of going backward with using sma...

  • Abstract:  The Sony NEX-7 is a compact interchangeable lens camera that aims to provide the same quality as an expert reflex camera. It has the same 24 MP sensor as the Sony Alpha SLT-A77 expert reflex while retaining compact size and offering a convenient, OLED...

  • When the NEX-7 was first announced, it looked as though Sony had gathered together a set of enthusiasts' wish lists and built a camera to exceed them all. From the compact 'rangefinder style' body with its built-in electronic viewfinder, through the h...

  • Abstract:  They must be putting something in the water at Sony's camera design bureau because right now the company is really on a roll. Suddenly the D-SLR range looks hugely competitive – courtesy of the SLT-A35, A65 and the brilliant A77 – and over in the compact ...

  • Excellent image quality, Extremely solid build quality, Clear and sharp electronic viewfinder
  • Dial-and-wheel interface can be confusing, Menu system is unnecessarily complicated, Auto ISO artificially limited, hampering low-light shots
  • The next step in Sony's evolution of its NEX interchangeable-lens-but-no-bulky-internal-mirror camera system is technically brilliant: an amazingly detailed and clean image sensor shoehorned into a reasonably compact camera body that's incredibly well bui...

  • The image quality is comparable with that of its sibling, the a77, which means it is dazzling. Images are sharp, correctly exposed, with accurate colour and incredible resolved detail. The camera is beautifully balanced in the hand even though at first gl
  • After each shot the viewfinder/LCD blacks out and the word “Processing” is displayed. Sony inform us that this shouldn't happen, but as it occurred with both the a77 and the aNEX7 we are waiting for an explanation or a solution
  • This is the camera that could make the DSLR unnecessary for most people. It is smaller, lighter and less ostentatious. It has image-making abilities better than most DSLRs. The range of lenses and accessories is constantly expanding. While the EVF is stil...

  • Intuitive three-dial control system. Excellent images even at high-ISO levels. Best-in-class shooting performance. Comfortable to shoot with and well balanced
  • Body and lens scratch easily. Not exactly compact with the kit lens attached. Costs a pretty penny
  • The NEX-7 offers the best of everything, from its reasonably compact size to its excellent image quality and fast performance. It's a worthwhile investment, should you have the money to spend....

  • Abstract:  Text and photos by Gadjo Cardenas SevillaSony's NEX 7 ($ 1200) is easily the epitome of how far mirrorles interchangeable lens cameras have gone. This is a prosumer-oriented compact APS-C sensor camera that has a 24 megapixel sensor and 2.4M dot OLED e...
